The traditional role of men in society is that of the protector and provider. Oddly, though, it seems that a lot of men either –
It is, in fact, not someone else’s problem, it is OUR problem.
Personally, I feel that if you hold to the traditional societal roles, we, as men, are failing in our duties. If you do not hold to the norms then we,
as humans, are failing to help our fellow humans.
I believe that being an ally of domestic violence and sexual assault survivors begins with education. Educating ourselves and our children about these issues is paramount to a caring, nurturing world. Where does education begin though? It begins at home.
Teaching our sons and daughters is our responsibility and obligation.
Showing our sons that the mistreatment of women (and other humans in general) is deplorable and inexcusable is what we men can do to better our world. If we want good men you must raise good men.
Teaching our daughters to not accept mistreatment from men (or anyone) is equally as important. If we want strong women, we must raise them to be such.
